Description Folio 450. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to George Spencer, Clerk to the Guardians of the Keighley Poor Law Union, acknowledging receipt of his letter of 31 July regarding the proposed emigration of the wife and family of John Emmott from Keighley to America. The Board cannot sanction any expenditure from the poor rate to assist anyone emigrate to anywhere other than a British colony, or to assist women who have been deserted by their husbands. They therefore decline to sanction this proposal. Paper Number: 28867/1854. Poor Law Union Number 571. Counties: Yorkshire West Riding.
