Description | Folios 35-38. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Reverend Edward A Breton of Charmouth [a Guardian for Axminster Poor Law Union], regarding the pauper named Lock from Catherstone [Bridport Poor Law Union], recently lodging in Charmouth. In response to his letter, they state that a removal order would be valid so long as it is made within 21 days of a chargeability order being issued. On the point whether the overseer of Catheston could be prosecuted for his actions in procuring lodgings in Charmouth for the man with a view to transferring liability for relief, the Commission considers that a case could be made. Paper Number: 6195/A/1845. Poor Law Union Number 76. Counties: Devon and Dorset. |
