Description | Folios 301-302. A notice to ratepayers requesting that they attend a vestry meeting at 12pm on the 1 June in the Parish of Colyton, to consider whether it would be appropriate to advance a sum of money to John Carter to assist with travel expenses for him and his family in emigrating to Canada. The notice is signed by William Skinner and Thomas Salter, Overseers. The notice has an addendum stating that the meeting ordered the overseers to pay the sum of £10 to John Carter, to be charged to the Poor Rate, to defray travel expenses. The signatories of the addendum are John White, J Loveridge, Thomas Bud, L Northam, Jacob Pady and Robert Higgins. Paper Number: 7195/A/1846. Poor Law Union Number 76. Counties: Devon and Dorset. |
