Description | Folios 122-123. Letter from Andrew Bell, of Amble Hope House, near Alnwick, to the Poor Law Commission [Poor Law Board], concerning a dispute about the sum at which owners of the tithe rent charge should be rated in the Poor and Highway Books in the township of Twisel [Twizel, in the Berwick-upon-Tweed Union]. According to an enclosed paper [not included], the tithe owner's rate includes a 5% deduction in the commutation sum to cover [agency expense]. The rate payers protest against this and insist that the tithe owner should be rated at the sum mentioned in the apportionment. Annotated: to send to Bell a copy of the circular (September 1840) on the rating of the rent charge to the poor rate and the deductions to be allowed. Paper Number: 8213/1848. Poor Law Union Number 325. Counties: Town and County of Berwick-upon-Tweed and Northumberland. |
