Description | Folio 134. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, to J and W Rees Mogg [John Rees Mogg and William Rees Mogg], Clerks to the Guardians of the Clutton Poor Law Union, referring to proceeds of sale of the Farrington parish houses. Points out necessity to enquire of parish officers if there are any claims as envisaged in Acts 1& 2 Vic 25, 'fair and just though not strictly legal' as these can only be paid from sale funds. Should none exist then money will be directed as requested. However it should be invested with the guardians having the power to draw down capital to meet annual instalments in respect of cost of a new workhouse. Paper Number: 4932/C/1839.
