Description | Folio 341. Draft letters from the Poor Law Commission to J Rees Mogg [John Rees Mogg] and W Rees Mogg [William Rees Mogg], Clerks to the Guardians of the Clutton Poor Law Union, regarding the abstracts of the accounts of the Clutton Poor Law Union schedule B form 11 for the quarter ending Christmas last. These show that pauper men and women have been relived out of the workhouse which the Commissioners consider the accounts must be incorrect or relief has been given under exceptional circumstances and wish you to give them a satisfactory explanation. Also to R G Wright Auditor of the Clutton Poor Law Union Hinton Blewitt, referring to the abstracts of the accounts of the Clutton Poor Law Union for the quarter ending Christmas last and querying whether the abstracts have been made out incorrectly or that the relief has been given in contravention of the regulations. The Commissioners therefore wish to know of the circumstances which induced him to sign the abstract and certify it, as well as to pass the charges for the relief of these paupers in the union accounts.
