Description | Folios 21-22. Letter from Edward J Howman, Hockering, to Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission, regarding the cost of the emigration of one pauper, for £23 12s 8d more than the money borrowed. Therefore Mr Evans, Auditor, refused to allow it. Dr Kay [J P Kay, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner], directed the overseers to go through the papers again, as a bill was passed during the last session giving extensions to repayment of loans. Therefore what steps need to be taken for an extension to our £100 loan from the Exchequer Bill Loan Commission? Annotated: put forward and not sanctioned for existing loans.
