Description | Folios 355-356. Letter from Samuel King, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, advising them that on 2 July the guardians had given notice to Robert Rudd, Schoolmaster and his wife, the schoolmistress, that their services would be dispensed with at the end of the present quarter. He goes on to say that at the meeting held on 23 July, the visiting committee again reported that the conduct of the schoolmistress was so bad that the guardians were obliged to suspend her from their service. The guardians request permission to discharge these officers for their general misconduct. Annotated: Dr James Phillips Kay, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner, states that he had received letters from the chairman of the board of guardians and from the Reverend P Gurdon [Reverend Philip Gurdon] of the Visiting Committee, and he is convinced that there is such a feud between the master and schoolmistress and master as to consider the stay of the latter impossible. Order for dismissal issued, 31 July 1838. Paper Number: 7153/A/1838. Poor Law Union Number 302. Counties: Norfolk. |
