Description | Folios 142-144. Letter from William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, to Edwin Chadwick, [Secretary to the Poor Law Commission], reporting on the meeting of the Guardians at the Basford workhouse. Henry Smith, Chairman, George Farrand, Vice-Chairman. Guardians present from Gamson [Gamston], Stoke [Stoke Bardolph], Heanor, [Derbyshire], Carlton and Arnold. Motions were proposed by the following: Farrand and Mr Aslin and seconded by Aslin and Mr Wood respectively for the following resolutions: That William Stafford's offer to supply seconds bread and flour to the parish of Wilford be accepted. That the overseer of Arnold to summon William Pearson to say why he isn't maintaining his family, now in the workhouse. That Overseer of Heanor, [Derbyshire], to remove Joseph Grammond from the workhouse to Smalley [Derbyshire]. John Walker, Arnold charged William Hayward, Governor of the workhouse with ill treatment of John Jackson, Pauper. Bills examined and allowed. Relieving Officers books examined. Out relief sum established. Pauper's cases heard. Provisions ordered. Funeral expenses and clothing from the parishes of Arnold, Ilkeston [Derbyshire], Trowell, Bulwell and Carlton allowed. Attached note from Gulson: His comments on the expenditures allowed by the overseers and passed by the Board. Annotated: Mr Nicholls, [George Nicholls, Commissioner]. Annotated: Acknowledge. Nil.
