Description Folio 180. Letter from William Ashton, [Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union], to E Chadwick [Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission]. Ashton states that present at a meeting held today were Henry Smith, Chairman; G Farrand, V Chairman [Vice Chairman] and the guardians of Basford, Arnold, Papplewick and Clifton. He says that so few people were present due 'to the exceeding heavy rain'. The Reverend J Banks had sent in his resignation, to take effect from 26 December 1836. Ashton acknowledges the receipt of a letter dated 15 November 1836 which answers several questions he sent on 25 October 1836, which he read to the meeting. Paper Number: 816/C/1836.
