Description | Folio 180. Letter from William Ashton, [Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union], to E Chadwick [Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission]. Ashton states that present at a meeting held today were Henry Smith, Chairman; G Farrand, V Chairman [Vice Chairman] and the guardians of Basford, Arnold, Papplewick and Clifton. He says that so few people were present due 'to the exceeding heavy rain'. The only business transacted was the examination of the relieving officers' accounts, and ordering out relief to the amount of £82 5s 1d for the ensuing week. The Reverend J Banks had sent in his resignation, to take effect from 26 December 1836. Ashton acknowledges the receipt of a letter dated 15 November 1836 which answers several questions he sent on 25 October 1836, which he read to the meeting. Paper Number: 816/C/1836. See also Paper Number: 3997/C/1836. Poor Law Union Number 334. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. |
