Description | Folio 216. Letter from William Ashton, [Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union], to E Chadwick [Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission]. Ashton asks their opinion on the case of an inquest held upon a pauper dying in the workhouse. He asks whether the expense should be paid out of the county rate, and if not, upon whom does the payment devolve. Paper Number: 1623/C/1837. Poor Law Union Number 334.
