Description | Folio 256. Letter from William Ashton, [Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union], to E Chadwick [Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission]. He says the board of guardians have reconsidered the letter from the Commissioners of 12 April 1837 and have decided that the sum of £5 5s 0d due to Thomas Cheetham, late Overseer of Ilkestone [Ilkeston] should be allowed. He also acknowledges receipt of their letter of 1 May 1837, which will be presented to the board on 9May 1837. Annotated: Receipt to be acknowledged. No reasons have been given for their interference with the auditor in the due performance of his duty as regards the charge of £5 5s 0¾ referred to, the Commissioners must again refer to their letter of 26 April 1837.
