Description | Folio 393. Letter from William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission. He is sending a copy of a bill for the maintenance of a pauper lunatic, because the parish feels the charges are excessive. The overseers of Wollaton have been charged fees for Samuel Wilson, by the lunatic asylum near Nottingham, for his admission on 16 July 1837, [pavi hose], two shirts, a pair of shoes, repairs, discharge fee and, on 24 August 1837, a charge for six weeks. (The amounts are given for each item, and the bill total is £5 7s 0d.) Annotated: Draft reply from the Poor Law Commission to William Ashton, in response to the above letter. They ask whether the fees and charges demanded by the lunatic asylum for the maintenance of this pauper are those usually required. Paper Number: 10749/C/1837. Poor Law Union Number 334. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. |
