Description Folio 396. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union. With reference to Ashton's letter of 20 December 1837, they are sending him the form of an order authorizing the guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union to purchase and, if necessary, alter the Basford Workhouse. They are to fill in the form, following the instructions given, and it is to be signed by a majority of the guardians. On receiving the signed form, the Commission will execute the order and send a duplicate to the Basford Guardians. They will also send a form of application to be made by the Basford guardians to the Exchequer Loan Board for the loan of the sum required. It is also necessary for a majority of the persons who were guardians of the dissolved Incorporation at the time of its dissolution to fill in and sign the enclosed form of application in reference to the sale by them of the property in question, and to send this application to the Commission. On receiving it, the Commission will issue an order under the Act 5& 6 Will IV c 69 sanctioning the sale and directing the application of the proceeds.
