Description Folios 403-405. Letter from R M Hodge [Richard Michell Hodge], Clerk to the Guardians of the Truro Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, replying to their letter of 18 December 1848, concerning the claim by M G Painter [[Matthew George Painter, former Medical Officer of West Kenwyn District]. He sends a copy of a statement by Henry Roberts and a resolution by the board of guardians. Statement by Roberts, a miner with seven dependant children, who broke his leg seven months previously. The leg was set and splinted by Mr Moyle [John Moyle, Medical Officer of Kea District]. Painter attended him for seven or eight weeks, gave him lotion to clean the leg, removed the splints after three weeks and applied starched bandages. Resolution by the board of guardians that, as the operation on Robert's leg was performed, without charge, by another surgeon, Painter is not entitled to a payment of more than £1 for his attendance. Annotated: the specified fee of £3 under the General Regulations can only be claimed if the medical officer provides all the treatment. As Roberts was only partially attended by Painter he is not entitled to the full fee. Copy to the guardians. 10 February 1849. Paper Number: 4335/1849. Poor Law Union Number 57. Counties: Cornwall.
