Description	Folios 445-446. Letter from R M Hodge [Richard Michell Hodge], Clerk to the Guardians of the Truro Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, reporting a meeting of the Board, attended by 27 guardians, where, among other matters, they elected medical officers for the coming year. One district had two applicants and each received 12 votes with three abstentions. A question was raised over the right of the chairman to hold a second vote, which would give the abstainers a chance to express an opinion. Consequently the post was re-advertised. Hodge asks, on behalf of the guardians, whether a second vote would have been within the rules. Annotated: [Henry Fleming, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Board] refers the matter to [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Board] who thinks that a second vote would have been acceptable, as it would give the abstainers a chance to vote.
