Description | Folio 264. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to the clerk to the guardians of the Bishops Stortford Poor Law Union, acknowledging a letter of 13 May 1851, relating to the appointment of a collector of the poor rate for the parish of Stansted Mountfitchet. They explain that the order of 31 January 1837 prevents the appointment of an assistant overseer to collect the rates. Noone, other than the guardians, can give Mr Nickolds authority to do so. So his appointment by the justices is invalid. They request that the form of queries for Mr Nickolds' appointment should be returned to them duly completed. Paper Number: 20824/1851. Poor Law Union Number 167. Counties: Hertfordshire and Essex. |
