Description | Folios 446-447. Letter from John D Taylor [John Dobede Taylor], Clerk to the Guardians of the Bishops Stortford Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board. He reports that the board of guardians have resolved to offer medical attendance on the sick poor of the union, for one year from 24 June 1852, to the present medical officers at the salaries stated on the enclosed form. Extra charges for midwifery and vaccination will be according to the orders of the Poor Law Board. They also resolved to reduce the medical officers' salaries by 15% next year. The request the Board's sanction for this. Also included is a list of the districts, parishes and medical officers. The medical officers are: Mr John Packman, Puckeridge, Braughing. Mr Renforth Thomas Scarr, junior, Bishops Stortford. Mr Francis Moore, Great Hadham. Mr John Brickwell, Sawbridgeworth. Mr C A Hodson, Bishops Stortford. Mr Samuel Welch, Stansted. Mr S C Hawke, Havering. Mr Henry Brook, Newport. Annotated by Mr Weale [Robert Weale, Poor Law Inspector], that the salaries of the medical officers in this district are much higher than in other places. Also annotated that the Board would like to know the reasons for the decrease in medical officers' salaries as proposed by the guardians. Paper Number: 21146/1852. Poor Law Union Number 167.
