Description | Folio 590. Draft letter from [Lord Courtenay, Secretary to the Poor Law Board], to Mr Lawrence [J Lawrence], Assistant Overseer of Furneux Pelham, Ware, in the Bishops Stortford Poor Law Union, acknowledging his letter of 22 November 1852, replying to Courtenay's letter of 17 November 1852, concerning the performance of his duties in regard to poor rate collection, under the general order for accounts. He tells him that the Board is not satisfied with his letter, as it does not explain why he failed to keep the required books and records. However, they note that he is now keeping them and they hope there will be no more irregularities. Courtenay encloses a copy of the order [not included] and repeats the warning in the Board's letter of 28 July 1852, of the necessity of strict compliance with the regulations. Paper Number: 44442/1852. Poor Law Union Number 167. Counties: Hertfordshire and Essex. |
