Description Folios 492-493. Letter from Sarah Newman, aged 66, to the Poor Law Commission, regarding outdoor relief. She states that she is a cripple confined to her bed for the last ten years in Bewdley and maintained by her sister and brother in law. The guardians have stopped her pay and refuse her any outdoor relief. She asks the Commissioners to use their influence with the guardians of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union and the relieving officer for Bewdley, Mr Farrington [Mitchell Farrington] to restore her pay. She cannot use her hands and is distressed in body and mind. She finishes with a postscript saying she only has the use of two fingers and a thumb in one hand and no use in the other all originating from smallpox and paralytic strokes. She has also broken seven bones in various parts of her body. Mr George Heaths, Hoo Lane, Kidderminster. Annotated: acknowledge, usual answer, the Commissioners will bring the matter to the attention of the guardians of Kidderminster Poor Law Union who will decide on the application.
