Description Folios 37-41. Letter from Charles Hart, Secretary to Liverpool Select Vestry to Poor Law Board. The Select Vestry in answer to your letter of 6 November 1850 submit for your consideration and approval a new subdivision of the Parish into twelve districts for medical officers, shown by red lines on the attached map [attached] and marked A to L inclusive. The accompanying sheets [attached] contain the names of the streets and number of paupers in each district. Two districts form one relieving officer's district. The division has been made under the control of the Medical Relief Committee and has been a tedious and difficult task and is now considered as equitable as possible and your sanction is sought. District A: William Street, Great Howard Street, Burlington Bridge, Vauxhall Road, Oxford Street North, New Scotland Road, Bryden Street, Boundary Road, Spencer Street, Scotland Road, Boundary Street North, Regent Road to William Street. 342 paupers. District B: Chapel Street, Tythe Barn Street, Vauxhall Road, Burlington Bridge, Great Howard Street, William Street, Waterloo Road, Bath Street to Chapel Street. 350 paupers. District K: Bridgewater Street, St James Street, Park Lane, Dickensen Street, Suffock Street, Slater Street, Bold Street, Hanover Street, Canning Place South, Wapping to Bridgewater Street. 326 paupers. District L: Parliament Street, Hope Street, Hardman Street, Leeces Street, Bold Street, Slater Street, Suffock Street, Dickensen Street, Park Lane, St James Street, Bridgewater Street, East Side Queens Dock to Parliament Street. 331 paupers. Also attached is advice/note from Alfred Austin, Poor Law Inspector, dated 28 February 1851 says it appears that the medical officers have not been consulted regarding the rearrangement of their districts. After much consideration he is disposed to advise the Board write to the Liverpool Select Vestry and state the Board is not disposed to object to the rearrangements bearing in mind the effort put in to equally divide the districts but as the calculations used to determine the workload are not declared, a trial period before granting their final approval is suggested and sanctioned.
