Description Folios 294-295. Letter from Thomas Watkins, Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, to Poor Law Board. Referring to their letter of the 19 March 1852 and forwarding the enclosed certificate. Stating that the house of refuge is managed by a man who receives 15s per week and a nurse who receives 5s weekly it was opened during the prevalence of cholera and having found very useful for reception of infectious cases has been continued ever since. Postscript - the provisions are cooked in the workhouse and supplied thence. Enclosed: Workhouse Accommodation Form A. This certificate relates to the maximum capacity of the work house, it states: The board of guardians of the Cardiff Union after consulting with their medical officer report to the Poor Law Board that the above named workhouse and house of refuge are capable of accommodating respectively 260 and 30 persons. Sanction 30 as the limited number for the house of refuge. Sanction 30 as the maximum for the refuge.
