Description | Folio 42. Letter from William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, Bulwell, to the Poor Law Commission, regarding relief to the able bodied on 12 January 1841. Asks for approval of relief. The following received relief of bread: Residence: Gedling: George Crossland, 46, Labourer. Ann Crossland, Wife, 40, Washerwoman. Fanny Crossland, 14. William Crossland, 9. James Crossland, 8. John Crossland, 5. Hannah Crossland, 2. Residence: Gotham: Joseph Hagg, 40, Labourer. Mary Hagg, his wife 41, Seamsstress. Ann Hagg, 11, Seams. John Hagg, 9. Mary Hagg, 7. Mathew Hagg, 5. William Hagg, 3. Annotated by E Senior, [Edward Senior], Assistant Poor Law Commissioner], stating relief was given to the families above, in a meeting he attended, as there are still 5 cases of smallpox in the workhouse.
