Description | Folios 527-528. Letter from Richard Birkin, Guardian, Basford Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, asking for advice as to whether funds of the board of guardians can be legally appropriated to pay for expenses incurred for an alleged libel action being taken by the county magistrate against three of the guardian members: Baily, Farrand and Wood. Also enclosed is a cover letter dated 1841 Aug 25 from the Commission to Mr Ashton asking for further information on the subject, the circumstances that gave rise to the action, the nature of the proceedings and the stage they have reached. Also any further information Mr Ashton has. Paper Number: 9219/B/1841. Poor Law Union Number 334. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. |
