Description | Folio 728. Letter from William Ashton, Bulwell, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, headed 'Beer to Paupers'. In response to previous correspondence the medical officer has been called before the guardians. He feels that beer to the extent permitted by the board is desirable for the health of the inmates. The guardians request that application for the allowance be given approval. The resolution to grant beer did not originate in a recommendation from the medical officer. Annotated: as beer has been recommended for health by the medical officer a temporary change to the dietary is to be confirmed on recommendation of the medical officer. Paper Number: 13217/B/1841.
