Description | Folio 74. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Thomas Watkins, Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, acknowledging receipt of his letter of 17 February 1843, and state that the cost of valuing a property for assessment to the poor rate can only be paid from that fund when an order has been issued by the Commission for a new valuation of the entire parish under the provision of the Parochial Assessment Act. If, due to defects in the existing assessment of the parish of St John the Baptist, Cardiff, it is thought advisable to have a new valuation, the Commission will issue an order for the valuation on receipt of the enclosed [not included] form of representation, and will direct the guardians to appoint a valuer. There would be no objection to the valuer adopting so much of the existing valuation as to be correct. Paper Number: 2270/B/1844. Poor Law Union Number 613. Counties: Glamorganshire and Monmouthshire. |
