Description | Folio 75. Letter from Thomas Watkins, Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, informing of an order entered into the minute book of the Cardiff Poor Law Union. The overseers and churchwardens of Llandaff informed the board that Richard Davies, collector of Llandaff poor rates, has absconded with more than £200 of the poor rates collected by him in the parish. Watkins requests that the Commission discharge Davies. Annotated: issue order of dismissal. Approve of the suspension and state that the Commission will issue an order of dismissal forthwith. Inquire how it was that the collector has as large a sum in his hands and if any and what steps have been taken upun the board against the sureties and what sum the bond was for. Dismissal order dated 4 and sent 6 March 1844. 57 copies. Paper Number: 2552/B/1844. Poor Law Union Number 613. Counties: Glamorganshire and Monmouthshire. |
