Description | Folio 371. Letter from Thomas Watkins junior for Thomas Watkins, Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission. He refers to the case of two boys, Thomas Harris and Edmund Williams, who were admitted to the workhouse and claimed they had absconded from Chepstow Poor Law Union Union workhouse [Monmouthshire]. The Cardiff workhouse matron [Mrs Davies] immediately wrote to the master of Chepstow workhouse stating what had happened and asking for the boys to be sent for. She received a reply from the clerk of the union and Watkins encloses a copy [not included]. He has been asked by the guardians to write a reply and asks the Commission what they should do to return the boys to Chepstow.
