Description | Folios 417-418. Letter from Joseph Wright and William Carter, Overseers of Bentley Pauncefoot, to the Poor Law Commission. He explains that the overseers of Bentley Pauncefoot have no accounts to audit. He reminds the Commission that Bentley Pauncefoot was previously incorporated in the parish of Tardebigg [Tardebigge] and is now separate. The appointment of overseers was delayed and expenses of the poor which did not amount to more than a few shillings was defrayed by the overseers. The overseers consider they were under no order from the Commission until orders came in October. Moreover they feel great prejudice from Bromsgrove and complain about the amount of the averages. They have not been shown how these sums were arrived at and thus cannot prove that they should pay no more than a fourth of the sum assigned. Paper Number: 12698/B/1840. Poor Law Union Number 526. Counties: Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire. |
