Description | Folio 326. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to [F J Baring MP], transmitting a memorial [not included] addressed to His Majesty's Lords of the Treasury by the guardians of the Newport Pagnell Poor Law Union asking for an extension of the time for repayment of the loan advanced to them by the Exchequer Loan Commission and for a reduction in the rate of interest payable. They state that the amount of the loan exceeds one third of the average expenditure of the parishes comprised in that union. It is suggested by them that the application should be complied with on the same grounds which induced the Commission to recommend to the favourable attention of their Lordships to a similar application from the Warminster Poor Law Union [Wiltshire] which are set forth in their letter of 24 September. Paper Number: 5758/A/1836. |
