| Description | Folios 269-270. Letter from Robert Green, former relieving officer for the Stansted district, Bishops Stortford Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, responding to their letter regarding his suspension from duty on account of having neglected to pay the appropriate weekly allowances to the paupers living in the parishes of Elsenham, Henham and Ugley, and having spent the money himself. Green expresses sincere regret regarding the incident and offers to pay back any money by deductions from his salary. He explains that he is 61 years old, with a sickly wife and seven children, six of whom are dependent on him. He begs to be reinstated to his former situation which, if granted, he states will entitle him to a weekly allowance for life from the superannuation fund about to be established.
