Description | Elvira Concepcion Josefina CHAUDOIR, aliases BRONX, Eva, Elise DUBOIS: Peruvian. BRONX was originally dispatched by SIS in mid 1942 to Vichy where her father, a Peruvian diplomat, was accredited to the Petain government. While there BRONX was approached by German Intelligence to act, in return for a generous salary which supported her expensive lifestyle, as a correspondence agent in the UK. She was trained and equipped to use secret writing to report and receive instructions. On her return to the UK, BRONX told SIS and was passed to MI5 as a Double Agent. Her main contribution was in support of Plan IRONSIDE, a mythical attack on the Atlantic coast of France which succeeded in persuading the Germans to retain a Panzer Division in the Bordeaux area at the time of the Normandy invasion. BRONX's file contains more information than many on her traffic and handling |
