Description | Books and papers of William Lowndes, Secretary of the Treasury from 1695 to 1724, consisting of copies drafts and abstracts of accounts and other documents, memoranda and subsidiary papers on Crown lands, Customs, the Duchy of Lancaster, Finance, Excise, Hearth Tax, the Royal Household, Scotland, Ireland, Military and Naval Affairs, the Mint and the Secret Service funds; a few original grants of offices and money, and private papers, including a treatise on the land laws by Lowndes and a manuscript copy of Fleta. Other papers, formerly owned by members of the Lowndes family, including the Treasury Minute Book for 1672 to 1673, missing from T 29, and the declared account of the Hearth Tax from March 1674 to September 1679, missing from AO 1 have been added. |
