Description | Papers (some formerly in TS 11) arising from the work of the Treasury Solicitor when acting on behalf of the Treasury and a number of other government departments in respect of their legal business. The papers also include some papers of the Admiralty Solicitor, whose duties were taken over by the Treasury Solicitor in 1877. The papers cover a very wide range of business, including such matters as criminal prosecutions, the administration of charities, Irish and colonial questions, treasure trove, bona vacantia, etc. They also include some records concerning the transportation of convicts, which give the names of those concerned and brief details of their sentence. Many of the records are accompanied by copies of court documents, such as writs, affidavits, etc. The dates given for copied documents are the dates of the original documents, not those at which the copies were made. |

Custodial history | Some of the records in the series were at one time in the PRO with others now in TS 11, but were returned to the Treasury Solicitor in 1917. They were re-transferred, together with additional material, at various dates from 1968. |
