Description and record details
Reference | TS 53 |

Title | Treasury Solicitor: Registered Files, Ministry of Supply (S Yearly Series) |
Date | 1936-1969 |
Description | Selections from a single series of registered files of the Treasury Solicitor, relating to work on behalf of the Ministry of Supply. The series was created in 1955 as the successor to an earlier series of Ministry of Supply-related files. Registration ceased in 1959 after the ministry was abolished, though papers continued to be added to existing files until 1969. Some files also include earlier papers dating back to 1936. The files reflect the major responsibilities of the Ministry of Supply in the period including the research, development, design and production of supplies for the armed forces, and the design and production of aircraft. Other files concern inventions and patents claims, claims for damages arising from supersonic bangs, and the setting-up of the Ministry of Aviation. |
Arrangement | The files are arranged in the order of their former references. The files were registered in a consecutive numerical sequence which was renewed annually. Thus each former file reference has the series prefix, 'S', followed by two digits representing the year in which the file was registered, and then the file's own unique number, e.g. S/55/124. |
