Description | This series contains Registers of the in-letters of the Board of Ordnance, 1783 to 1856, and of the Master General of the Ordnance, 1844 to 1854. Also included are Registers of in-letters of the Commander-in-Chief, 1857 to 1870, relating to the Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers, Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, etc. The series includes material which would otherwise be found amongst the Records of the Commander-in-Chief, Military Secretary and Army Council (WO). The books contain: a brief summary of the in-letters to the Board; the Board's action (if any); the disposal of the paper. |
Arrangement | The first pieces in the series are arranged strictly chronologically and include a brief summary of general Board Minutes. Later volumes are arranged alphabetically by correspondent and chronologically within letters. |
