Description

Captured ship: La Nuestra Señora de Covadongaother La Nuestra Señora de Cabodongaof Manila (master Jeronimo Montero) [the Acapulco Galleon].

History: a Spanish galleon (32 guns, 286 men including 18 passengers), bound from Acapulco to Manila, laden with silver; taken in fight on 19/30 June 1743 off Cape Espiritu Santo by HMS Centurion(George Anson commanding), brought into Canton and there sold (condemned at sea under a special commission issued to Commodore Anson's expedition).

Bundle A, numbered A 1-A 11: register of cargo, commissions for soldiers and sailors aboard La Nuestra Señora de Covadonga and other ships, wrapper.Bundle B, numbered B 1-B 26: ship's papers, including volumes such as a muster roll, register, accounts etc., certificates, official orders, instructions.Bundle C, numbered C 1-C 28: bills of lading, letters relating to politics, trade, war and navigation sent between Manila, Acapulco and Mexico.Bundle D: numbered D 1-D 36: mail-in-transit intended for Manila.
