Description

This series contains plans and drawings of army barracks, depots, forts, batteries and other military structures.

The bulk of the plans date from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with only a handful of earlier or later material.

Administrative/ biographical background

The Defence Geographic Centre was established as a business unit within the Defence Geographic and Imagery Intelligence Agency (DGIA), which was formed in 2000. By 2020 the DGIA had been reorganised on four occasions and is presently the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence of which the DGC forms the Foundation Geospatial-Intelligence pillar (NCGI-F) alongside Analysis (NCGI-A), Technology (NCGI-T) and field deployable force elements (NCGI-D).
