Description and record details

Reference FCO 49
Title Foreign and Commonwealth Office and predecessors: Planning Staff and Commonwealth Policy and Planning Department: Registered Files (PP, ZP and RS Series)
Date 1965-1990
Description

This series consists of registered files of the Foreign Office Planning Staff (January 1967 to October 1968), the Commonwealth Office Policy and Planning Department (January 1967 to October 1968) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Planning Staff (October 1968 onwards) relating to policy planning matters.

Arrangement

Arrangement is by former file reference. The ZP series files in this series are a continuation of earlier files created by the Foreign Office Planners, but from January 1967 the registration system used was altered from the earlier 'jacket' system to a registered file system in preparation for the formation of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in October 1968. Records of the ZP series, and in the Commonwealth Office PP series created by the Commonwealth Policy and Planning Department were inherited by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Planning Staff on the creation of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in October 1968. A new RS series was used by the FCO Planning Staff from October 1968.
