The records in this series were used in compiling the United Kingdom Medical Series of the Official History of the Second World War, in particular the three volumes relating to Administration, Commands and Campaigns under the general heading Royal Air Force Medical Services. It includes reports, correspondence and other papers from various commands, groups, wings, squadrons, and maintenance units stationed in many parts of the world; and from Hospital, Mobile Field Hospitals and Medical Receiving Stations and other units, including a few from the Commonwealth. There is material, including consultants' reports, in a number of medical fields, and on the condition, reception and care of prisoners of war. There are narratives and drafts by the Medical Historian.
