Description

This series consists of the circulated papers of the Committee on Child Health Service (which included minutes of its meetings), papers on special working parties, general correspondence, statistical information, evidence submitted, and comments on the report. The report, titled Fit for the Future, was published in December 1976 (Cmnd. 6684).

Most of the files in this series were created within the system of the Department of Health and Social Security's file office series, by file office LA (MH 152). Missing copies of early circulated papers were retrieved from a file created by file office G, papers of the Child Psychiatry Working Party came from file office D. The central part of the former reference, C395, was a subject heading, standing for the Committee on Child Health Services.

Administrative/ biographical background

The Committee on Child Health Services was created in 1973 to review and make recommendations on the provision made for the health services of children up to and during school life; it was also required to study the use made of these services by children and parents. The committee consisted of a chairman, Emeritus Professor S D M Court CBE MD FRCP FCST, and twenty other members.
