Description | The Companies Registration Office classified index provides particulars of dissolved exempt private companies. They contain administrative summary information regarding the dissolved company. The summary information concerns mainly the capital and the area of the company work. These were maintained in paper format until 1986. From 1986, computerised databases were used to record the information: the STEM and PUBL databases. This series is a hybrid series that contains paper and digital files (2525 volumes and 2 digital files). |

Selection and destruction information | In 1959 and 1960 the Particular Instance Paper Committee decided that sheets from the Classified Index in this series containing particulars of all dissolved exempt private companies' files both preserved and destroyed, should be kept.(A private company was a company having less than 50 shareholders, whose shares were not offered to the public and which, providing certain conditions were fulfilled under s129 of the Companies Act 1948, was exempt from furnishing balance sheets and accounts).
