Description	Policy, general and record files of the Industries and Manufactures Department, covering various subjects. The IM series was a single numerical series in which each file was given an appropriate P, G or R suffix. Policy (P) files contained papers relating to policy decisions, general (G) files contained general papers and record (R) files contained background information. The series was started in 1948 and ran simultaneously with the yearly IM files (files which were closed after one year and which had the year of registration as part of the file reference). The main difference between the two series was that P, G and R files were allowed to run for more than one year and were not intended to be used for case papers. Some files were allowed to run for several years, postdating the Department itself.
