Title | Chancery: Files, Tower and Rolls Chapel Series, Certiorari Corpus Cum Causa |
Date | 1277-1428 |
Description | Various types of the writ certiorari. These include certiorari super causa captionis of men. At first these were principally concerned with persons indicted or convicted of crimes; later, prisoners for debt were common. Of other types, certiorari super causa arrestacionis of goods was likewise often concerned with the recovery of debt, but there are examples of attachments of ships and their cargo for other reasons. Other writs attempted to prevent the abuse of letters of protection and to reinforce the various types of writ for taking sureties to keep the peace. Most of these records were formerly included in C 47 and C 202 |
