Colonial Office: Empire Marketing Board: Posters

The piece description gives the original title of each poster or a description of it or part or all of its wording or caption. The name of the artist is also given where identified. The former reference, as given by the Empire Marketing Board, is an important indication of the nature of the posters. The major series was issued in sets of five plus a top caption, catalogued, and on the whole published chronologically, in the sequence A to Z, followed by AA to AZ, BA to BZ, CA to CZ, DA to end.

Some posters were especially reprinted by the Board and given the additional prefix R. The series with the prefix CL are 'Contract Labels' and those with the prefix CON are 'Contract Posters'. The series of large posters with the prefix HDG are 'Hoarding Posters'. Those with the former reference beginning MP are 'Milk Publicity' items. References beginning with SWB are 'Shop Window Bills', with SWC 'Shop Window Cards', and with SWS 'Shop Window Strips'.
