| Administrative/ biographical background | The stewards and lessees of Crown manors were bound to transmit duplicates of their court rolls (keeping a copy themselves), originally to the Auditors of Land Revenue, but upon their abolition in 1832, to the Commissioners of Woods, Forests and Land Revenues. |
