Administrative/ biographical background

In the period covered by this series the usual procedure was for a prospective lessee to approach the Crown officer responsible for a particular Crown possession, the majority of which had come to the Crown at the Dissolution. After the issue of a warrant, a particular would be prepared by the auditor, annotated with the agreed rent, term, tenure and entry fine, which was then used as the basis for a grant or lease to be passed under the appropriate seal.
