Description | Charity Commission and Board of Education papers and correspondence relating to the administration of endowments and scholarships of teacher training colleges and schools under the Charitable Trusts Acts including schemes and orders made under these Acts. The earlier records comprise Charity Commission papers (otherwise in CHAR) relating solely to educational endowments transferred to this department under the Board of Education Act, 1899. The files retained their Charity Commission reference numbers but were also stamped with the college, school or foundation number used by the board. Subsequent records are in the Board of Education Series. A few files relate to exhibitions and scholarships. One scheme is administered under the Endowed Schools Act, that of the Foundation of William Baylis of Painswick, Gloucestershire. |
