Board of Education and predecessors: Secondary Education, Endowment Estate Management...

Description and record details

Reference ED 43
Title Board of Education and predecessors: Secondary Education, Endowment Estate Management Files
Date 1894-1924
Description

Board of Education series of files in use from 1903 to 1921 (though including both earlier and later papers) formed from the papers of the estate management files. They contain correspondence and papers relating to the management of property and other assets of educational foundations.

The files reflect the numerous changes in the assets of a foundation. That is, the purchase and sale of property and personal estate; Board of Education approval in the form of Orders; redemption of rent charges; leases and copies of extracts of deeds. The papers record the movement of finance and property and the authority and legality of the transactions.

The estate management papers of a foundation often involve or affect the affairs of subsidiary foundations; it should not however be assumed that papers necessarily exist in respect of each subsidiary charity shown.

Arrangement

The files are arranged under counties of England and Wales with a separate grouping of files for foundations which are 'general' in content. The titles of charities are arranged alphabetically, and where applicable subsidiary charities are shown for each foundation.
