Description | This series contains protocols of treaties. These are documents reciting the agreed terms of the treaty, signed and sealed by the plenipotentiaries (the people acting on behalf of the governments or organisations involved) of each side. In some instances additional documents, such as the full powers (or authorisations granted to the plenipotentiaries) are also included. Ratifications exchanged by heads of state after the signing and sealing of the protocols are in series FO 94. The series includes a volume relating to treaties with Algiers, 1695 to 1824. Otherwise, the earliest item dates from 1775. The text of most of these treaties, as published in UK Parliament Command papers, is available to view at UK Treaties Online. |
